Nikki Yazxhi Shares Beauty, Fashion, and Lifestyle Advice!

Nikki Yazxhi is a beauty and lifestyle writer who lives in Sydney, Australia. Her background is in magazine editing, producing, and directing; and her freelance stories have featured in Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and Shop Til You Drop. She loves (in no particular order) hanging out with her boys, blogging, the beach, dark chocolate, coffee, red wine, clean sheets, and snuggling on the couch on Friday nights!

When did you discover your love for writing?

Hmm… Probably when I was about eight or so! I used to make my own magazines by cutting up my mum’s magazines, sticking the pictures in a notebook, and then writing my own little captions!

Have you always been into beauty products, even as a little girl?

Oh yeah! I have always been obsessed with moisturizers, hair products, and lip gloss! I use to save up my pocket-money to buy products at the pharmacy.

What are some of the differences between writing bellaMUMMA and being a beauty editor?

With bellaMUMMA I can blog whatever I want, whenever I want! When I freelance or work for a magazine, I have to write in brief or in the magazine’s tone… writing for bellaMUMMA is more personal!

Have you ever struggled with self-esteem or body image issues in the past? If so, how did you overcome those issues?

Oh yeah… when I use to style shoots with models, I always use to feel very average afterwards. I soon came to the realization that looks aren’t everything.

What do you love about yourself and why?

I love that my body created two beautiful little boys. I’m still amazed by that!

Who do you consider a role model or hero and why?

I don’t really have a particular role model but I am constantly inspired by other mothers!

How do you define beauty?

Being happy in your skin. Being bitter is ugly!

What is your daily beauty routine like?

It’s quick, super-quick…

AM: it’s cleanse, moisturize, foundation, mascara, and lip gloss!

PM: it’s cleanse, moisturize, and eye cream!

Do you treat yourself to any luxuries such as spa treatments, facials, etc.?

I’m lucky in that respect, as they’re often a perk of the job!

Do you feel women become more comfortable with their looks as they age or do you think most women fight off the aging process?

I think most women are trying to fight off the aging process… there’s so much pressure to look younger.

What do you keep in your makeup bag?

Chanel Lumiere foundation, Maybelline Colossal mascara, Ere Perez lip pencil, and ModelCo ‘Liplights’ lip gloss.

What are some of your daily reads?

Daily beauty tips @,,’s beauty blog, and

What beauty advice has remained constant?

Drink at least eight glasses of water a day. I think that’s a biggie. If you’re dehydrated it can cause a lot of skin problems.

What celebrity style do you love?

I do like Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Moss’ style… and I love Alexa Chung’s look.

Favorite place to shop?

I shop online quite a bit now… my favorite shopping sites are:,,,, and

What is a new make-up trend that women should try?

I’m loving glittery/shimmery eye shadow at the moment – it gives eyes that extra sparkle!

What are you excited about right now?

Surfer Strands. Basically it’s dark roots with lightened pieces at the ends and around the face, like Alexa Chung’s hair. It’s a look that mimics surfers’ natural highlights— the sun lightens their hair in such a way that it’s the perfect graduation from dark to light – and there’s no stop or start to them. To get surfer strands ask your colorist do chunky bright pieces below the chin so that it doesn’t wash out your complexion, plus a few hand-painted, less bright pieces around the face.

What is the single best piece of beauty advice you would like to share?

Cool down your shower and take shorter soaks. Don’t freeze yourself but try using tepid or warm water, as it’s actually better for your skin’s hydration levels (so you don’t get dry skin) and can help prevent inflammation (so you don’t break-out).

 What is your greatest indulgence?

I went through a stage of getting eyelash extensions – they were expensive but oh-so awesome!

What is the riskiest career decision that you’ve made that has ended up successful?

Not returning back to the publishing world after I had my sons. If I did go back to working on a magazine, I wouldn’t have time for bellaMUMMA.

The single best thing you are able to do because of your success?

I’m able to freelance from home.

How do you manage balancing your time between family, work, and yourself?

Not very well… I’m still struggling to find that perfect balance!

What has motherhood taught you so far?

Patience…Well, I’m still kind of working on that too!

What does your family do for fun together?

Picnics at the beach and bike riding (although I don’t have a bike, yet)!

*Thank you, Nikki!

Here is a sample post from BellaMUMMA:

glow & tell: my new bellaMUMMA friend, JANELLE

THIS WEEK’S GLOW & TELL features one of my new gorgeous friends, Janelle, who I met through bellaMUMMA… We are also starting to work together on an amazing new project which I’ll keep you updated about! … but until then, here are Janelle’s beauty tips…
What’s the best beauty advice you’ve even been given or have discovered? I’ve discovered that cold chamomile tea bags placed under my eyes for just a few minutes makes a huge difference. Swollen, tired and puffy eyes are instantly tight, less puffy and ready for eye cream. It’s so relaxing, especially since I get so many “challenging” nights by being a new mom.

What are your can’t-live-without products?
I cannot live with out Dr. Hauschka eye balm – it visibly smoothes wrinkles, protects the delicate area and keeps the skin around my eyes moisturised. It’s my best kept secret.  I also love DERMAdoctor Ain’t Misbehavin’ Intensive Blackhead Treatment – it keeps my skin clear and reduces blackheads and is especially great for people who are blessed with the positives, and negatives of naturally oily skin like me. And finally, Wine Hydrating Mask by Arcona Skincare –
I use it twice a week and it makes my skin smooth, soft and moisturised (or at least that’s what my man says) and it smells yummy too.

What’s your best time-saving tip?
For a quick make-up fix, I use Fresh Supernova mascara – in two minutes, this mascara gives me long, think beautiful lashes {+ it doesn’t contain any alcohol, so my eyeslashes won’t dry and fall out!}: and Rose Tint Lip Balm by Benefit, it’s amazing! Secret tip: use it on your cheeks for a sun-kissed hint of color. Muuuuuah!

    Hello Nikki!

I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with your bellaMUMMA; it is the most beautiful and interesting one I have ever come upon! I read a bit about your career history as an editor, writer, and creative director and I was curious as to where you got started. I have very similar interests as a Creative Writing and Public Relations student at Chapman University with some experience in graphic and fashion design so I would love to hear from you.

    Thanks so much!

  2. Hey all 🙂
I was recently completing a school assignment on body image and stubbled across this website. I think it is fantastic! i would be considered a plus size even though i am only a size 10. I really feel this website promotes the healthy side of living and to be rake thin isnt everything. To the creator of the site, this website is very inspiring 🙂
